Nowy Jork

Nowy Jork - New York

Opis

Wielokrotne powracałam do Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art MoMa, New Museum of Contemporary Art, Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, Frick Collection, The Cloisters, Brooklyn Museum, galerii SoHo. W mojej pamięci pozostaną wspaniałe wystawy Louise Bourgeois, Judy Chicago i Georgii O’Keeffe. [EN] Joanna Imielska (“Anatomy of Time”, 2020): I am very impressed with New York. Already during my first trip to this city in 2017 I succumbed to its unusual atmosphere, and in 2018 this feeling was consolidated in me. I have an insatiable need to explore the news about this city. My guides are among others: Janusz Głowacki, Magdalena Rittenhouse, Hanya Yanagihara, Atticus Lish, Edward Rutherfurd, Jennifer Egan, Małgorzata Szejnert, Kamila Sławińska, and then I confront what I have read with what I have seen. I was lucky to live in Manhattan, Greenwich Village, 9th Street, right next to Tompkins Square Park, near Washington Square. It was my centre from which I set off on foot, by subway, sometimes by bus to various places that must have been seen: Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, a remarkable World Trade Center Memorial, take a walk along Fifth Avenue, not bypassing Broadway and Flatiron Building, take a boat ride on the lake in Central Park, find yourself in the evening in Times Square, go from the beginning to the end of High Line, take the cable car to Roosevelt Island, say hello to the Atlantic Ocean on Coney Island, and in the evening go to the Metropolitan Opera for Vincento Bellini’s “Norma”, or to Carnegie Hall for the concert “Polish Landscapes”. Many times I would return to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art (MoMa), New Museum of Contemporary Art, Guggenhaim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, Frick Collection, The Cloisters, Brooklyn Museum, SoHo Gallery. I will remember the wonderful exhibitions of Louise Bourgeois, Judy Chicago and Georgia O'Keeffe. These places became the titles of my works, which I dedicated to New York. For me, Manhattan is geometric, with its neat grid of streets that intersect at right angles to each other, with geometry that breaks away from the ground and moves with architecture high above the heads, touching the sky. Manhattan has inscribed itself in my earlier games and plays with geometry. The works refer to postcards sent from a journey, once very popular, now replaced by much faster and more convenient forms of communication. These are drawings, watercolours, collages, in which the texts play a very important role: my notes and pieces of information taken from guides and books about New York. In the creative process I rediscovered this city, I did not try to speed up anything, the works took the form of peculiar mandalas, everything was flowing and growing with its rhythm full of harmony, concentration and peace. / FOT.
